Pregnancy is beautiful! Our bodies are doing miraculous things to bring new life earthside. No matter the lifestyle you have you will be encouraged to take vitamins and supplements once you are pregnant. Many doctors suggest taking supplements before your become pregnant so you start off fully loaded with everything that you need to make your baby! This blog is about my vegan pregnancy supplements.
For those of you who don’t yet know, Brian and Seyka, the creators of For Goodness Seyks, are plant based and PREGNANT BABY! Due 1/2/21
Vitamin and Supplement Notes:
- Review all of the supplements you’re currently taking and stop any that seem questionable.
- For example I was taking a vegan supplement that had a warning on it to stop taking it if you’re pregnant or nursing. After checking with my doctor, we determined that it blocks a vital baby-building block from my body. So I needed to discontinue that ASAP.
- If vitamins make you feel nauseous
- You might want to try a higher quality vitamin/supplement or another brand.
- Some supplements just do make you a little nauseous. A wonderful hack that I’ve learned is to keep my pill box in the fridge and I take my vitamins and supplements when I’m lying in bed about to fall asleep. This keeps me from being bothered by the upset stomach (or the fish-flavored burps from my vegan-omega-3 supplements).
My Prenatal Vitamin and Supplements
Morning Vitamins
-
- Any vitamins that may give you a boost of energy are best taken early. I take the following supplements with my first meal that has fat in it (mmm, like a Peanut Butter Green Smoothie!)
-
- B-12 Pure Vegan Methylcobalamin
- D3 + K2 Vegan full spectrum Pure Therapro Rx (K2 is shown in research to be amazing for baby’s teeth!)
- B-12 Pure Vegan Methylcobalamin
With every meal
-
- Digestive Enzymes I use these to help with digestion
-
- Night Time Supplements
-
- Thorne Prenatal
I have tried a lot of prenatal vitamins and this is by far my favorite. I was taking MyKind before because I loved the idea of the nutrients all coming from whole foods. However, after I did some vegan blood work I found that my body wasn’t absorbing the supplements that it needed to! Other prenatal supplements have also been hard on my stomach.
Thorne is a well respected prenatal supplement and has been praised by all of the doctors and midwives I’ve told that I’m taking it!
- Thorne Prenatal
Vegan Omega (O-mega-zen-3)
TAKE AT NIGHT – fish burps are so gross!
