While the US is a leader in the vegan lifestyle, it’s not the only country that is following this trend. Google trends show the huge upward trending interest, worldwide, in vegan lifestyles. Google is even predicting that the plant-based revolution is coming and it is the number one “game-changing” trend of the future.
Nestle, the world’s largest food company, predicts that plant-based diets are on an upward trend and here to stay.
In the past decade, Britain’s population of people over 15 years old who identify as vegan has increased by 260%.
Even more impressive than the number of people in the UK who have completely switched to veganism is the rise of vegan food items which includes food for people who have the “flexitarian” diet. Plant-based food sales are up 1500% in the last year according to The London Economic.
Vegan food items increased by 92% in Australia from 2014 to 2016, according to a report done by Mintel.
In 2017 plant-based diets hit the top of Canadian Google search trends, and the Canadian government released a Food Guide which favors vegan protein and eliminates dairy as a food group entirely!
There was a 400% increase in people following a vegetarian diet in Portugal over the past decade, over half of which practice a vegan diet.
The Chinese government released plans to reduce meat consumption by 50%. In Hong Kong 22% of the population is practicing a plant-based diet.

Non-dairy milk market is forecasted to reach $11 billion by 2019 globally. Think almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, etc. (Report from BBC Research)
Plant Based New shared a quote from BCC Research analyst Shalini Dewan: “More consumers may be choosing plant-based options either because of personal preference or because of recommendations from health or nutrition professionals. Consumers continue to seek plant-based beverages.
At the same time, they are becoming more interested in plant-based options for milk that offer great taste combined with the nutrients that can be found in cow’s milk.” (Plant Based News)
The meat-alternative market will reach $5.2 billion worldwide by 2020. Impossible Burger and Beyond Meat are two US startups that are leading the market in meat-alternatives.
