Vegan Voyage Vietnam
We are on a 21 country vegan voyage over 5 months to enjoy vegan food from all parts of our planet, connect the vegan community, spread the vegan mission, create ethical consumer guides, and have a blast while doing it.
Country number six is our Vegan Voyage Vietnam. While this country had the best alliteration for our title, it has been the toughest place I’ve ever been. I, Seyka, am by nature a lover of structure, discipline, organization, and cleanliness. The night we landed in Hanoi I loved the energy, but in the following days the culture shock really sunk in and I had a hard time interacting in the energy of this city.
Vietnam was the place that we have struggled being vegan. All other places felt pretty easy to find great vegan food. In Vietnam we found that the idea of cow-milk free or lactose-intolerance didn’t seem to exist. When clarifying if something has cow milk in it, people were confused and unable to give us clear information.
Hanoi had many bugs – mosquitos and cockroaches were commonplace. Bring your mosquito repellent.
People who thrive in chaos, feel a sense of freedom in lack of structure, are comfortable with relaxed cleanliness standards, and in general like the high energy nature of bustling cities, will probably love Hanoi.
We had some great experiences as well while in Vietnam!
Vegan Voyage Vietnam Tour
We had a tour with Hanoi Explore Travel that was wonderful! We did their Trang An tour.
A nice bus picked us up from our hotel. We had a charming tour guide who was full of perk and information. We went to a temple and learned cultural details about Vietnam.
We went on a bamboo boat ride through the caves of Trang An, and then cycling on a countryside road passing through villages, rice fields and karst mountains. We climbed 500 steps above the Mua Cave to see the Ngo Dong river.
Vegan Voyage Vietnam Restaurants
Loving Hut Hoa Binh Vegan Restaurant
I just love going to Loving Huts wherever I am. The vibe at each location is unique, but they are always centered around peace, goodness, and making the world a better place.
Lodging
If you are like me and a bit thrown off by the chaos of the city I recommend booking with a hotel you are familiar with to give you some stability and comfort. We did that for the second half of our stay. For the first half we stayed at two hostels that were nice and had private rooms.
