Country number eight was Vegan Voyage Singapore.

Country number nine is Vegan Voyage Malaysia.

Vegan Voyage Malaysia Overview

We specifically went to Kuala Lumpur on this trip. We went in mid to late May and stayed close to the twin towers in KL. The city is regularly referenced as “KL”.

Vegan Voyage Malaysia Getting Around

KL is huge you can’t expect to get around by foot, there weren’t bikes to rent while we were there, and although we got a metro card to use their public transport, it wasn’t super efficient or easy to get around doing that. So you end up using Uber or Grab to get around the city.

Check out my blog on abillionveg which is a vegan food review site and a platform that helps you request vegan options from restaurants! This platform is founded and run from Singapore so it has many options in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore’s neighbor, included on the platform!

Vegan Voyage Malaysia Lodging

We were planning on going to Sri Lanka instead of KL but there was a very sad terrorist attack shortly before our plans to be there. We were getting governmental warnings not to attend, and the yoga retreat we were planning on meeting with closed down for a period because of the low rates of tourism, so we were forced to change our plans at the last minute.

Because it was last minute, we decided to use points to stay in a place we know well and are comfortable with. We booked in at the Hilton Garden Inn Kuala Lumpur South. It has a gym with free weights, comfortable rooms, a large buffet breakfast with vegan options, and a rooftop hangout area with a pool.

Vegan Voyage Malaysia Restaurants

Dharma Realm Guan Yin Sagely Monastery

This is a Buddhist temple and place of worship. You can go behind the building and find a large vegan buffet set up every day of the week. Six days a week it is about 3$ USD for a full plate, and on Sundays it is free. They also have workshops on how to recycle, be good to the earth, be kind, and do good in other ways.

Chameleon Vegetarian

This is a fully vegan restaurant, though it isn’t easy to tell unless you talk to one of the employees.

Vegan Voyage Malaysia To-Do

Massage at Shujin Reflexology by the Blind

We had an awesome massage at Shujin after reading reviews. For 1 hour it was $12 USD.

Kuala Lumpur Park

Gorgeous park near the Kuala Lumpur City Center. You can go see the fountains, the public children swimming area, the beautiful park, and then head into KLCC mall for some shopping and browsing.

Bus between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur (KL)

You can take a bus to Kuala Lumpur. We took one bus line to KL and it took 6 stops that seemed to last forever and were very annoying. On the way back we took Aeroline bus. It costs a little more per person but the time savings and hassle savings were worth it. We ordered a vegetarian meal and called ahead to ensure it would be vegan. Ours was, but double check before you dive in.
